Zendesk Asana integration: setup, what syncs and limits (2026)
Short answer: Yes. Asana's free Zendesk app lets agents create an Asana task from a ticket, link existing tasks, and see the task's status and owner inside Zendesk. It is manual: an agent clicks to escalate. For automatic task creation, Zendesk's own Asana connector for action flows can create and update tasks. Both are listed as free integrations; you pay for the Zendesk and Asana plans underneath.
What are the native Zendesk Asana integrations?
There are two, and they suit different jobs.
| Asana app for Zendesk (built by Asana) | Asana connector for action flows (built by Zendesk) | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Agent clicks inside a ticket | Runs as a step in an automated action flow |
| What it does | Creates tasks from tickets, links existing tasks, adds attachments, shows task status and owner | Creates, updates and deletes tasks, creates and updates projects, adds comments and followers |
| What shows in Asana | Ticket title, number and assignee | Whatever the flow writes to the task |
| Zendesk plan | Not stated; listing says "Free integration" | Any Suite plan, or Support Team, Professional or Enterprise |
| Source | Zendesk Marketplace | Zendesk Marketplace |
Most support teams start with the app. Escalating a bug or a billing problem to another team is usually a judgment call, not a rule.
What does the Asana app for Zendesk sync?
Per the Zendesk Marketplace listing and Asana's app page, agents can:
- Create an Asana task from a Zendesk ticket.
- Link an existing Asana task to a ticket.
- Include attachments when creating the task.
- See the task's status and owner without leaving Zendesk.
On the Asana side, the task shows the ticket's title, number and assignee.
What it does not do: neither page says it copies ticket comments into the task, or changes the ticket when the task is completed. Agents still check the task status in the sidebar and update the customer themselves. The one public review on the listing asks for an option to carry over selected ticket fields automatically.
How do you set up the Asana app in Zendesk?
The app has to be installed on both sides. If you can't find it in one tool, it usually means the other half is missing.
In Zendesk
- Open the Asana listing and click Install.
- Pick your Zendesk account and confirm.
- Open any ticket, open the Apps panel on the right and find Asana.
- Click Connect to Asana and sign in.
In Asana
- Open the project where escalated tickets should land.
- Click Customize in the top right.
- Click + Add app and choose Zendesk.
- Follow the setup steps and sign in with your Zendesk user.
- Repeat for each project. The integration is set up per project.
How do you create Asana tasks from Zendesk automatically?
Use Zendesk action flows. Zendesk's Asana connector offers these actions: create project, create task, update project, update task, add task to project, add comment to task, add follower to task and delete task.
- In Zendesk, go to Admin Center > Apps and integrations > Actions > Action flows.
- Create a new flow or open an existing one.
- In the Step sidebar, under External actions, choose Asana.
- Click Connect and sign in to Asana.
- Add a Create task step and map the ticket fields you want on the task.
The listing calls it a free integration built by Zendesk. Its details panel also shows "Guide Professional or above", which doesn't match its requirements list, so confirm with Zendesk if you are on a lower plan.
How much does a Zendesk Asana setup cost?
The app and the connector are free to install, though the Zendesk listing notes that Asana fees may apply. The cost is the plans underneath. Prices below are list price, billed yearly, October 2026.
| Tool | Plan | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Zendesk | Support Team | $19 per agent a month (ticketing only) |
| Zendesk | Suite Team | $55 per agent a month |
| Zendesk | Suite Professional | $115 per agent a month |
| Asana | Starter | $10.99 per user a month |
| Asana | Advanced | $24.99 per user a month |
Asana also has a free Personal plan for up to 2 users. To see the full cost for your team, use the Asana cost calculator.
What about Zapier or Make?
They are useful when you want a rule the native options don't cover and you'd rather not build an action flow. Zapier has ready-made Zendesk + Asana templates, such as creating an Asana task for every new ticket in a Zendesk view, or when a ticket gets a comment. Make has an Asana and Zendesk connector.
| Tool | Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zapier | Free | $0 | 100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps, 15-minute checks |
| Zapier | Professional | $19.99 a month, billed yearly | 750 tasks a month, checks every 2 minutes |
| Zapier | Team | $69 a month, billed yearly | 2,000 tasks a month, 25 users |
| Make | Free | $0 | 1,000 credits a month, 15-minute minimum interval |
Make's paid plans are priced by credit volume; check the live page. If you already pay for Zendesk Suite, try action flows before adding another subscription.
When one system makes more sense
If most escalations go from support to the same few people, and agents spend time checking task status to update customers, two tools may be one too many. A single system where the ticket and the follow-up task are the same record removes the copy and the status check.
That is what FitMySaaS builds for teams of 10 to 40. If you are weighing it up, the Asana alternatives page and reduce SaaS costs guide are a good start.
Questions
Is the Zendesk Asana integration free?
Yes, both the Asana app and Zendesk's Asana connector are listed as free integrations. You still pay for Zendesk, and Asana fees may apply depending on your plan.
Does closing the Asana task update the Zendesk ticket?
Neither listing says so. The app shows the task's status and owner inside the ticket, but an agent still updates the ticket.
Why can't I find the Asana app in my Asana project?
It must be installed in both Zendesk and Asana, and in Asana it's added per project through Customize > + Add app.
Can I create Asana tasks from Zendesk triggers?
Not with the Asana app, which works by hand. Use Zendesk action flows with the Asana connector, or a Zapier or Make automation.
